19th-Century Games: Students will learn what toys and games were like for children during the 19th- century and try their hand at rolling hoop races, hopscotch, and "Here I Bake, Here I Brew". A good activity for larger or more energetic groups. This activity will be cancelled in the case of bad weather but a discussion of toys and games is still possible in this case.

A Civil War Soldier’s Life: A costumed interpreter will discuss the different uniforms of Civil War soldiers, both northern and southern, as well as the equipment that each soldier had to carry to survive. A black powder weapon demonstration can be done if requested.

Fashion Show: Students will be shown the many parts that made up the typical outfit of a yeoman farmer and his wife during the mid-19th-century. Limited pieces are available to try on but teachers should be prepared to choose two or three students to do so if the group is larger than 10. Outfits can be handled and passed around if preferred.

Letter Writing: Students will be able to write a letter using a nib pen and homemade ink. The importance of letter writing to people without phones or email and the scarcity of ink and paper during the Civil War will be discussed. This activity is best for small groups. There is a $1 per student activity fee to cover the cost of materials.
